If you want to shop ON Christmas Day, you have very few options. But if you need a last-minute gift card, stocking stuffers, cold medicine, or milk, knowing about these stores open on Christmas will help you. Hours may vary by franchise, so check before you head out.
Stores Open on Christmas:
- Albertsons: This grocery chain has a tradition of staying open on Christmas Day for last-minute shoppers. But expect hours to be different from the usual. Check your nearest store for exact hours.
- 7-Eleven: As a gas station and convenience store, 7-Eleven will be open on Christmas for those seeking fuel and coffee.
- CVS: As a drugstore, CVS will be open on Christmas (it’s also a great place to pick up last-minute decor and gift cards). Some non-24-hour locations may be closed (or close early).
- QuickTrip: Most locations will be open and serving food and coffee.
- RiteAid: Most locations will be open for any last-minute Christmas grocery, gift card or over-the-counter medicine needs. Pharmacy counter hours vary.
- Safeway: When we called around, we found several locations that will be open on Christmas. But hours will be limited and will vary by store.
- Starbucks: Not all locations will be open, and hours will vary at those that are. So check the website of your preferred location to see if it’ll be open for a coffee run. Starbucks gift cards also make very desirable gifts. Two birds, one stone.
- Walgreens: Most 24-hour locations will be open. Walgreens also has a lot of small gifts and stocking stuffers, in case Santa is running a bit behind this year.
Christmas Eve Store Hours for Major Chains
If you’re shopping on Christmas Eve, you have a LOT more options. Most major chains are open, though hours may vary. Plus, if you’d rather not go inside the store, plenty of chains offer buy online, pick up in-store options as well as curbside pickup services on Christmas Eve. There will be cutoffs, however, and pickup slots may be difficult to schedule on Christmas Eve, so aim to wrap things up early in the day.
If you can make a point to shop just a little earlier, some chains will be offering extended hours through Dec. 23.
Best Buy Christmas Eve Hours
TBD. Last year, stores closed 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and stores offered extended curbside pickup on Dec. 23.
Costco Christmas Eve Hours
Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. That’s an early closing time, compared to the usual closing time of 8:30 p.m. — so make sure to prep for an early Costco run if you’re shopping on Christmas Eve.
Dick’s Sporting Goods Christmas Eve Hours
Open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
During Christmas week (through Dec. 23), stores will be open until 11 p.m.
Kohl’s Christmas Eve Hours
TBD. Stores closed at 6 p.m. in 2020.
Macy’s Christmas Eve Hours
TBD. Last year, stores stayed open until 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Sam’s Club Christmas Eve Hours
Open until 6 p.m. on Dec. 24.
Stores will be open until 8 p.m. on Dec. 23.
Target Christmas Eve Hours
7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 24.
Through Dec. 23, however, hours will be extended until midnight to give shoppers extra time to get gifts.
Walmart Christmas Eve Hours
TBD. Last year, stores stayed open until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and were open regular hours Dec. 23.
