I already mentioned that I like the outdoors. Taking time for downtime always leads to inspiration for me. Rather though than write an essay, I’m just going to make a bullet list of things that inspire me. Perhaps some of these things also inspire you.
- The smell of rain
- Playing with kids
- Taking a hike
- Sitting on my back porch
- Listening to snippets of conversation
- Reading a good book
- Reading stories of success
- Water – lakes, rivers, waterfalls, creeks, ocean
- Trees
- Board games
- Rest
- Reading philosophy
- Long runs
- Math problems
- Logical proofs
- Viewing artwork
- Reading with kids
- Introducing others to new ideas
- Science projects with kids
- Volunteering
- Writing
- Poetry
- Cleaning
- Long conversations with good friends
- Making art with kids
- Delicious meals
- Meandering walks
- Theatre
- Blank canvas
I just noticed – none of these things involve social media
So the next time you’re needing inspiration, perhaps it’s time to put down the digital world and look around in the physical world.
