As a kid, I spent hours in my backyard. We were lucky enough to grow up with a huge yard that backed up to a hill. I was only a Brownie Girl Scout for a year and while I bridged to Juniors, I didn’t get to participate that full year. Being outdoors is my happy place. I really enjoy the fresh air and the scenery.
Hiking and exploring new areas is about my favorite thing to do. I really ought to do more of it. In 2020, I’d set a goal of going on 20 hikes. Of course, we all know how 2020 went. I do want to hike and explore more.
I also enjoy kayaking – in fact I like it so much I got certified in Small Craft Safety so I can take my Girl Scouts out in kayaks and canoes and introduce them to the kind of peace that can be found while in a small boat on water. One of my bucket list items is to kayak around Greenland.
I’m a level 1 certified archery instructor, and I have a lot of fun out on the range. I’m not that good, but I can teach how to get good.
Because I didn’t get a lot of outdoors time as a kiddo outside of my backyard and then hiking as a teenager, I feel like there’s still a whole world of the outdoors to discover.
When I feel stressed out, the best way I’ve found to clear my head is to get outside and move around for a while. Where’s your happy place?
