As I write this, I’m watching the latest episode of This Is Us. I have to say, I’ve become quite fond of this show. There’s something comforting in catching it each week. I recently had the opportunity to sample Rabisco Reserva Tejo 2015, sent to me by Winesellers, Ltd. Just like a favorite TV show, there’s something comforting about this wine. It’s versatile, pairing well with roast chicken and beef and holding up well to the powerful flavors of Mediterranean cuisine.
About Rabisco Reserva Tejo 2015
Rabisco Reserva Tejo 2015 comes from the Quinta Sao Joao Batista estate in the National Reserve and animal sanctuary in Paul of Boquilobo. The estate is within the Tejo region, an area in Portugal known for its vineyards, land preserves, and river. The area is an ideal terrain for cultivating Portugal’s grapes.
The Sao Joao Batista vineyards span across 76 hectares, and are home to both traditional Portuguese grapes and international varietals.
The wine itself will run about $13 per bottle on the shelves. Rabisco Reserva Tejo 2015 is made up of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Touriga Nacional. It matures for 9 months in French oak barriques and has a 13.5% alcohol content.
My Notes on the Wine
This wine has an amazing nose – spices – particularly nutmeg, dark fruits, and tobacco. There was also a hint of caramel. Upon tasting, it had notes of cherrie sand pluots. It was full-bodied and hefty enough to stand up to a wide variety of cuisine. At its price point, this is a wine that’s great for your weeknight dinner – or your dinner party.
