Breaking Ground with Coffee and Thread’s Wild and Free Lounge Pants

I’m happy to be participating in the 2017 Breaking Ground Blog Tour hosted and organized by Melissa Evans of Mahlica Designs. I’ll be posting today and on Thursday, so be sure to come back to see what I chose for my project for that day. The theme of the tour is to sew from a lesser known/new to me sewing pattern company. I chose to make Coffee & Thread’s Wild & Free Lounge Pants.

ABOUT THE PATTERNS

I really like the patterns by Coffee & Thread – I also purchased their Ila Dress and their Ania Tunic. Their styles have neat little details that are unique to their designs. For a full list of independent pattern designers, cruise on over to the design list at Mahlica Designs.

I also broke ground in another way. In addition to making a new-to-me pattern, I decided to make an Easter outfit for my little model for the first time. I decided, after a lot of mind-changing to pair the Coffee & Threads’ pants with Mummykins & Me’s Olivia Peasant Top*. I chose this top rather than the more intricate tops by Coffee & Thread because it allowed me to customize it with vinyl and some sewn-on flowers. One further bit of new-to-me trivia: When I make outfits I always use patterns from the same designer. This is my first mix-and-match pattern matching.

ABOUT THE FABRIC

Both of the fabrics I used in this project were vintage fabrics from my hoard – er – stash. The top is a really soft cotton, and the pants are made from a really funky vintage rib knit. I’m a fan of combining textures and patterns, and this combo is one I’d been thinking about for a little while. I’m glad I finally had an excuse to sew it up. I’d used the pants fabric for another project a while back, and it sewed up nicely. It gives the pants a good bit of structure. I almost wish I had a similar fabric in black. How cool would that look?

It was a bit chilly outside and my gal was a bit tired, nevertheless, we got some photos of this super-cute outfit! Be sure to scroll down after the photos to find the other stops on the blog tour and to learn how you can have an outfit like this one custom made for your child.
