It’s no real secret that I’m a huge baseball fan. Although I will die an Oakland Athletics fan through and through, Wining Husband is a Seattle Mariners die-hard fan. Take a look at us on our Seattle trip. Granted, I don’t have much A’s gear anymore, but I fully plan to get hold of an A’s jersey with our last name on the back as soon as possible.
That being said, it was really exciting to see our two favorite teams face off. We watched the season opener in Japan recast at a local sports bar and cheered for opposite teams. Needless to say, Wining Husband and I take every chance we get to watch a baseball game.
That being said, today was very special. My Oakland A’s, the folks I’d been watching play against the San Francisco Giants when the 1989 earthquake hit and the ground started moving under my feet as my 11 year old self ate a hot dog and sunflower seeds, beat the Texas Rangers to become the AL West Champions. What topped off the event was that I got to watch it with my son, also an A’s fan.
There we were, as the A’s scored, jumping up and down, listening to Pandora play “We are the Champions” and screaming with delight over the fact that the A’s were the AL West champions and that they were, in fact, going to the post-season.
I’m not quite sure what I’ll do during the offseason, but I will be cheering on the boys of the East Bay as they play the Detroit Tigers. Let’s make it all the way!
